We are delighted that a total of five colleagues from across the Corserv Care business have been nominated in the 2024 Proud to Care awards! The Proud to Care Awards are in celebration of those who go above and beyond within Cornwall’s Independent Adult Social Care Sector.

Three of our team have been nominated in the ‘‘Community Based Worker of the Year’’ category: Kate Breese, Darren Grylls and Sharon Worsnip.

In addition, Jane Waters has been nominated for the ‘Hidden Treasures’ category and Sarah Fletcher has been nominated for: ‘Registered Manager of the Year’.

Darren’s nomination said:

‘’Darren always goes above and beyond, he takes time into getting to know the client and puts them at ease, he strikes up conversations on the things around the house & garden e.g.: photos, plants, how long they have lived there. He always has the best interest at heart. He loves helping someone who says they can't do something to seeing them day by day reaching their goals and being able to live independently again.

He is always happy to train new colleagues, who say he is knowledgeable, helpful and shows them ways to deal with different situations and people.’’

Sharon’s nomination said:

‘’Sharon was part of the most brilliant Corserv care team that looked after my Dad when he came out of St Michael’s in March 23 until he passed away In February 2024.

Sharon had such a lovely way with him, she knew When he was playing up and could chivvy him into feeling better, she helped him get up, to make his porridge , to help with his lunch or to put him to bed. All her work was person centred. She treated dad with dignity and kindness always. She had a ready Smile and loved to listen to him tell a tale, crack a joke Or comment on the politics of the day. She made his life bearable When Dad got too poorly in January she texted me as he was taken off the run.

She was kind to me and was very supportive. She visited Dad in hospital And he was delighted as they had a good laugh. Sharon even came to his funeral. It is people like Sharon who give service users and their carers faith in the system. I cannot speak highly enough of Sharon and the Corserv care team who looked after my Dad , who could be very difficult!

Thank you Sharon and the rest of your colleagues for the wonderful Work you do every day, in all weathers. Rain or shine you bring the sunshine into people lives every day.’’

Kate's nomination said:

’Kate goes above and beyond. She cared for our nan (who has sadly passed away last year) above and beyond. She was there for nan's physical care but also provided the mental stimulation needed. Her soft approaches and listening to nan's wishes and respecting her ways of life brought us all respect, trust and gratitude. Nothing was too much and she is one that stands out by not drawing attention to herself but working very hard behind the scenes. Thank you to all the Corserv Care members that helped nan over the years you have been amazing. During COVID everyone was very respectful but Kate even cleaned all the door handles on her way out and was in full PPE before coming in. Thank you Kate.’’

Sarah's said:

‘’Sarah is passionate about her clients and has numerous stories of how their lives have changed and improved during their time at Trefula House, in particular a person with severe skin trauma being fully recovered since being at Trefula House. Sarah supported a EDI culture going above and beyond with our overseas workers, creating a faith room and portal pray mats and a community for her staff and is very much part of the St Day village. Sarah holds an annual fete for the residents, their families and staff, with local community line dancers providing the entertainment. Sarah created, a Christmas nativity with all of the staff involved and the overseas workers taking part. Sarah has stepped up to support the community support workers, covering as their manager when necessary and being a go-to person, coaching and mentoring new managers. Sarah has a pet therapy dog Wilma, who has cuddles with the residents and comes to work at Trefula House every day. Sarah is inspirational and dedicated to care.’’

Jane's nomination said:

‘’Jane was deeply motivated to make a contribution in the pandemic and joined Corserv Care as a Community Support Worker. She moved into a supervisor role and scheduler role and joined the HR people team last when we began a significant project to bring overseas workers from failing care services into Corserv Care. Jane’s empathy, compassion and experience made her the go to person for the carers.

Jane has a hands-on approach, with new day services she has been painting with service users and getting to know the carers. Jane’s priority is supporting the carers in the community with HR as she has first-hand experience and wants them to feel there is help at hand. Jane has recently trained as a safeguarding advocate with the council, mental health first aider and trained in Human Resources.’’

All nominations will now be reviewed by an independent panel, made up of local individuals with experience in the adult social care sector. The shortlisted nominees will then be invited to a ceremony event on Friday 20 September at Tregenna Castle in St Ives.

Well done to all for such a remarkable achievement! It is fantastic that our dedicated team members are recognised in this way.
